In 1983 Simon Biner, Nadja Liebenstein-Biner's father, opened the Hotel Simi at its current location in Zermatt. At that time he already looked back on a successful career as a member of the Swiss National Ski Team. Due to his strong ties to that sport, he continued to work as a skiing instructor after he quit skiing on the Team. He also managed Zermatt's ski school for several years.
What tipped the scales toward building a hotel was the success of the Bergrestaurant Simi, a mountain restaurant at Furi, which he had opened in 1967 together with his wife Renate.
In 1994, the Hotel Simi was expanded to its current size of 41 rooms. One year later, Nadja Liebenstein-Biner and her husband Arno took over the hotel management - and they still love it!
Over the last two years, Hotel Simi has carried out multiple renovations. The entry hall, and thus also the access to the ski room, has become more guest-friendly. The redesigned entry hall with the reception desk has been turned into a much more spacious and brighter lounge, and the new bar and open fireplace invite to linger. Several rooms have been enlarged and refurbished. Moreover, as of the winter season 2009/10 we have fulfilled the wish of many guests for a junior suite and a suite.
